Green, cloth covered book with a fairly plain cover, with the words "Scrap Book" and some flowers embossed on the front cover. On inside front cover "Arlington Heights, January 1st 1901", in different handwriting "gift of Mr. + Mrs. George Albert Winn". Scrapbook contains a variety of newspaper clippings, with a large amount news about the local population, such as obituaries, marriage announcements, and property sales. Also includes clippings about local events, such as the production of a new statue between the town hall and the library, the 75th anniversary of the Unitarian society in Arlington, a rememberance of sleighing in Boston 50 years earlier, and local thefts, fires, and graduations. There are a number of photographs glued in, usually unreleated to the newspaper clippings on the same page. Photographs are mainly of livestock, including multiple photos of cows, boating, especially of regattas on the Harlem and Hudson rivers, and buildings. Several scrapbook pages have fallen loose. Both the front and back have a number of clippings loose, not glued onto the page. Most of the documents are undated, but those that are dated are from between 1899 - 1907. The dates given in obituaries also suggests the early 1900s. [1899 - 1907] |
