Large (16" x 10.5") scrapbook covered in plastic black-and-white patterned contact paper. 239 pages. Contains a variety of clippings from Arlington newspapers, mostly "Arlington Advocate" but some from "Enterprise", from approximently 1890 through 1920. Some clippings are hanging loose. Some pages also have parts cut out of them. First few pages include clippings of poetry and anecdotes. The majority of the book is clippings about town life. Includes many obituaries and weddings of Arlington residents, with some articles about social gathering. Also includes articles about church services, attendance, and special events. Many clippings about local clubs and summaries of their meetings, especially the Bradshaw Missionary Association and Arlington Men's Club, with some clippings about the Arlington Woman's Club, Ladies Sewing Circle, Arlington Historical Society, Golf Club, and others. Several articles are about the temperance movement in Arlington. There are also several articles about town elections and town meetings. There are also articles about the construction of town buildings, especially the Robbins Town Hall and Library, and the demolition of old buildings, such as the Russell Grocery Store. There are also a few articles about local crimes and fires. Last 20 pages of the book are more general articles, including several sermons, and some general theological discussions. Book is focused on Congregational Church events and parishioners, but also includes articles about the general population of Arlington. Most articles have a month and day written on them, but the year is not always clear. |
