From the City of Boston, 1861: "This Certifies that 'The Ladies of West Cambridge' have given 'a most valuable donation' for the soldiers who leave Boston under the requisition of the President of the United States." Signed: "'Mrs. Harrison Gray Otis' For the Committee on Military Donations." (items in single quotes are handwritten; the rest are printed) In carved wooden frame. On back, cardboard inscribed "Presented by Mrs. H. H. Homer". Found in folder with other Civil War documents, with no accession number, but matches description. From the Estate of Mrs. H.H. Homer. Note: Two very similar documents, one framed and one loose paper. Description matches framed document more closely. |
