Scrapbook |
Scope & Content |
9 1/4 x 12" 36 pages, black cover, with "Scrap Album" written in red and gold calligraphy. On the upper right hand corner of the cover is a gold circle with a spray of gold leaves and some small red berries, with two gold puppies inside the circle. Inside front cover has written in pencil "Florence M. Payne, Christmas Present from mother", with a drawing of a rabbit pushing a giant egg in a wheelbarrow glued in. Contains newspaper clippings glued in, mostly poetry, along with some short stories. Some news articles are also glued in, including marriages and obituaries. There are also some articles about Elmer Partridge, including a seemingly unprovoked assault on an Arlington woman, Mary E. Dutton, when he was sixteen. Also has a number of etchings of royalty. Loose in the scrapbook is a copy of the first newspaper ever printed in the USA, "The Boston News-Letter", April 17 - 24, 1704. Mostly undated, with one photgraph copyrighted 1894. Judging from the quailty of print, various dates mentioned, and royalty pictured, the rest of the book dates from the 1880s-1890s. |
