found in archives Collection of large, loose, blue-grey papers, held in a large mylar folder and tied together with string. Papers are fairly miscellaneous, with only a general theme of Arlington history tying them together. Contains several photographs, including a photograph of Mass Ave, looking towards the Arlington National Bank and S. K. Ames store, dating from the early 20th century. Also contains a photo of cows, an engraving of "Washington taking command of the troops at Cambridge, July 3, 1775", and a copy of a photograph from 1900 of Arlington House (with "Cooper Tavern" painted on the side- site of Cooper Tavern but not original building), situated at the corner of Mass Ave. and Medford Street. Also contains a photo of a number of young women in graduation clothes, some photos of the high school sports teams, and some photos of men in military uniforms. Based on clothing and car style, photos date from the early 20th century. Has a handwritten note about the most common types of locomotive engines, dating from 1970. Also contains an article entitle "Charles Gott: Carriage and Wagon Manufacturer", printed in the Arlington Advocate on March 1, 1962, including some information on life in Arlington in the early 1900s, along with a detailed description of Gott's wagon manufacturing business. Mostly undated. Photos appear to be originals from 1900-1930, but newspaper artictles are from 1960-1970. 4 pages. |
