Society Papers Read - people Typed doucument on legal size paper - paper read before Society in 1929. Noted that t his is a copy of a paper dictated to the Rev. Frederic Gray by his grandmother, in Boston in 1821 - by Mary Turell, aged 81. Gray was the minister of Bulfinch St. church and cousin to her father, the late George Gray of Arlington. Paper includes reminscensces of Ms. Turell who lived around the Boston area. No mention of Arlington (West Cambridge or Menotomy) area but speaks to events happening in the region. Subjects referenced: Family quite mobile in early years, living in Plymouth, Middleboro, Roxbury, Pomfret, CT., etc. Indian Wars - Ft. Edward and Toconderoga Her father (Mr. Morey) was one of soldiers who "took" Edmond Andros She was married and moved to Boston in 1768 - she recounts events related to build up of the Revolutionary war ""what I remember of the last war" and living in Boston at the time of occupation. Her child swallowed "an english shilling" and nearly died. Her husband died and she took in boarder, including "General Warren, Judges Dana and Sargent, and the council" Speaks of witnessing the fighting at Breed's or Bunker's "Heights" Tells a story of a cannonbal that passed through the roof of her house - she is still in possession of the ball. A note says that her father, George H. Gray, tells about playing with the cannon ball in her attic. |
