Death announcement of Susanna A. Winn "Susanna A. Winn Passes Away in Winchenden Miss Susanna A. Winn passed away in Winchenden Sunday, June 2nd, one of the last members of a large and influential family, which for over a century was conspicuous in the affairs of this town. miss Winn, who was in her eighty-third year, was the younger daughter of the late Albert and Sarah Prentiss-Winn. She was born in the Winn homestead that still stands on Summer street and is now occupied by the family of her late brother, George Winn. She attended the local schools when Arlington was still called West Cambridge, and was of the class of 1869, which was the first class to be graduated from what was called Cotting Academy. Among her contemporaries were the late William E. Wood and the late Mrs. Frank Y. Wellington. Miss Winn showed artistic talent when very young and after graduating from Tilden Seminary, she studied art under Champney. The outstanding work from her brush was called "The Window of Pigs", which was sold for a goodly sum. The subject was taken from real life on the Winn farm. Before Miss Winn took up her residence in Winchenden, she was active in the Arlington Historical Society, of which she was a charter member; also in the First Parish Unitarian Church. Prayers were held at Winchenden, conducted by Rev. Roger Forbes, the son of Miss Winn's former pastor. Yesterday at 2:30 the funeral services were conducted here in the First parish Church by the pastor Rev. John Nicol mar, and Dr. Frederic Gill, minister emeritus of the church. The interment was in the family lot in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Miss Winn is survived by a nephew, George A. Winn and a niece, Miss Nina Winn; also two grandnephews, George and Arthur, and a grandniece, Barbara Winn." |
