Letter from William Wood to his friend Stephen Blake. The letter starts out by mentioning how much he misses Stephen. He then discusses how difficult it must be to be away from home, although he has no personal experience with it. William then discusses the wisdom of knowing oneself to become a better person, with religious references. The letter closes with an update of town life: that the weather has been cold and crops doing poorly, John Hopkins is expected to get married, and Sophia has gone to Wobun to work at her trade.
