The document was written on March 5th by committee-man John Cutter. It is a notice requiring the constable of the northwest precinct of Cambridge, James Perry, to notify freeholders and inhabitants of the area as well as those of Charlestown, who are qualified to vote, to attend a town meeting. The meeting would take place at the meetinghouse on March 20th at 1pm. The tasks required for the meeting were (numbered 1-6) to choose precinct officers for the following year; to increase Reverend Samuel Cooke's salary; to know what the inhabitants thought about fixing up the windows and doors of the meetinghouse as well as have them grant money for that as well as other costs in the precinct; to choose a person/s to inspect the bahavior of young people in the meetinghouse on Sabath days; to know what the inhabitants thought about getting rid of two seats in the back of the meetinghouse and replacing them with pews; and to hear a report from a committee on ministerial privileges. A response was required on or before the date for the meeting. The reverse contains a short response from James Perry that he has notified the proper parties. Dated March 13th. |
