scrapbook - Arlington Newspaper clippings - 1897, 1906-15 Mark "W.T. Wood YMCA Old Park Ill 12/8/1908" 11 X 9" 28 pages, brown cover - Newspaper clippings about Arlington people, wedding invitations Book has a brown cover with a narrow border of black floral designs around the edge, with the words "Scrap Book" in large font in the center. Book is held together with string instead of a proper binding. Mostly consists of newspaper clippings, that are half glued in and overlap each other. Inside front cover reads "W.J. Wood, Oak Park, Ill. Y.M.C.A., 12/8/08", with "to father and mother for their Florida trip, January 1920" written in the lower right corner. Contains many articles about the Wood family, including an article about the wedding of Annie Wood, an obituary for Stephen Blake Wood, vacations members of the family took, and business news of the family. There are also a number of articles about the high school baseball team, where Harold B. Wood was pitcher. Also includes several articles about general Arlington life, including weddings and obituaries, as well as parties and concerts. There are also a number of articles about clubs in town and their meetings. There are a few articles about the ice cutting industry on Spy Pond. Also include an article about the graduating class of the Arlington High School of 1907. Includes several articles about the Arlington Centenial in June 1907, including a description of the parade. Some articles about town elections, including information about the dates and results, as well as information about the canidates. Contains several wedding invitations, dating between 1891 - 1916. Also contains several documents related to the quarter centennial of the pastorate of Charles H. Watson at the Baptist church. There are two long articles - one about the Empire State Ice Association's annual meeting at the plant of the Gifford-Wood Co, and one about Chautauqua Week with an address given by Harold Wood. Both long articles are from the Hudson Republican. Articles are mostly well labelled, and date between 1897 and 1916. Book is in good condition. |
