Title |
Warning for Precinct Meeting, March 14, 1763 |
Scope & Content |
The document was written on February 22nd by committee-man John Cutter. It is a notice requiring the constable of the northwest precinct of Cambridge, Ebenezer Swan, to notify freeholders and inhabitants of the area as well as those of Charlestown, who are qualified to vote, to attend a town meeting. The meeting would take place at the meetinghouse on March 14th at 1pm. The tasks required for the meeting (numbered 1-4) were to choose precinct officers for the following year; to offer a sum of money for Reverend Samuel Cooke's salary; to grant a sum of money to cover charges arising in the precinct; to hear a report from a committee appointed to examine the late treasurer's accounts; and to know what the inhabitants think about a petition that is in the "great and general" court. A response was required on or before the date for the meeting. The reverse contains a short response from Ebenezer Swan that he has notified the proper parties. Dated March. |
