In 1759, Seth Reed received a militia call-up. He was a training soldier in the local Charlestown militia. Before the Revolutionary War, the militia drew its members from the local community and all able-bodied men ages sixteen to sixty were required to serve and equip themselves. Every year a Muster Day would be scheduled, giving the men a chance to practice. The men were required to appear every year and would be fined if they did not. |
