Handwritten story by Stephen Palmer Blake entitled, "The Slaver." The story relates Blake's encounter in Havanna with a ship captain planning to secretly transport individuals to Cuba to be sold there into slavery (between 1855-60). Written by Blake in ink on 8"x10" lined legal paper. Two pages, written on both sides. Blake recorded these events, which occurred early in his career, from memory much later in his life. "The Slaver" is included in the book, The Life of Stephen Palmer Blake from his journals, (pp. 337-339). |
