Notes |
Charles was the oldest of six children born to Harry R. Parris, an Arlington, MA boiler maker, and his wife Nellie (Sullivan). Charles, who was the incoming captain of the baseball team and president of his class at Arlington High School, died at Cambridge Hospital after being accidently shot by a friend on September 16th, succumbing to wounds to the abdomen and chest. "Held in high esteem" by classmates, he was blessed with a "pleasing personality." In addition to his school work and activities he held a part-time job at the Arlington News Company. Following services at his parents Massachusetts Ave. home on September 19th, students from the high school, led by Superintendent John T. Scully and Principal Mitchell, marched to St. Agnes Church for a high mass of requiem. "It was pitiful to see the grief of his classmates and the young men who were more closely associated with [Charles] in athletics." Source: Boston Journal, Wednesday, Sep. 20, 1911, p. 6 |
