  13. 1987.19.1 - Ball, Musket

Small ball - used in musket. Rough made. Found at Belfrey Tower, Lexington. Item is magnetic, indicating iron composition. Iron balls rarely used in muskets as lead was preferred. Possible piece of "grape shot" used for a cannon? The projectile has between 4 to 6 roughly defined flat faces, possibly indicating that it was hammered to alter the shape, possibly to fit into a hand-held gun instead of an artillery piece?
