Wall to Town Garden |
Description |
Photos - Dist. 4. Parks & Gardens. Dist. 4. Photo of wall and entrance - Town Garden. From Richard Duffy: The reason this photo was taken was to show off the newly built wall running along Massachusetts Avenue from Robbins Library to Arlington Town Hall, part of a 1939 redesign of the town hall garden (officially the Winfield Robbins Memorial Garden). Fun fact: the face of the wall is composed of panels of Ohio sandstone (to match the exterior fabric of Robbins Library), alternating with panels if Indiana limestone (the exterior material of the town hall). This pattern of different stones was cleverly conceived to create an additional visual aspect of connection to each of our two most prominent and prestigious municipal buildings. |
