Name and number of Richard Duffy written on back with "Arlington Historical Society" Original photograph taken 1873, copy print made 1997 Caption of another reprint: "Schwamb's Frame Manufactory, ARLINGTON, Mass. Oct. 15th, 1873" Per Duffy: "Charles Schwamb's oval and circular picture frames became especially popular after the Civil War. To accommodate new machinery and staff, he twice added ells to the main building. A group of employees poses with the product samples in 1873, the same year that the third floor addition was built. The 'mill race,' through wich the waterpower entered teh building, is tot the far right." |
