Description |
Large quilt of unbleached squares of cotton, signed by 500 Arlington residents, including names of various clubs and committees written on white dimity fabric in red and white ink. Quilt blocks are sashed with red fabric and the quilt is finished on all four sides with the same red cotton as binding tape. Machine quilted with red thread and backed with white cotton fabric. Pencil marks visible on each block, used to make the text even and centered. The quilt has a velcro header sewn to the top edge of the quilt, indicating that at some point in its existence, likely when or shortly after it was made, it was hung for viewing. Each signer paid ten cents for the Family Welfare Fund, and the total raised was $56.00. Clubs or organizations that participated included the Historical Society, the Women's Club, the Kensington Study Club, Firemen, and others. |
