Description |
Silver megaphone from the Arlington Fire Department. The mouthpiece is oblong/egg shaped and very tarnished on both inside and outside. Mouthpiece connects to a an engraved stem, which has three sections. The engraving on the first section has small flowers at the bottom, with vines rising upwards. The base of the section is engraving with criss-crossed lines. Connector between section one and two has an eagle head protruding holding a ring[for rope to be tied to] in it's beak. Second section's engraving is fire-related, with a fireman's hat, ladders and hoses spraying water atop an oval engraving enclosing a vehicle(perhaps a fire carriage?) Other engravings in this section appear floral. Connector between section two and three also has an eagle head protruding holding a ring in it's beak. Pattern on third section is leaf-like. Bell of megaphone has four semi-circle sections. Two of these sections have a fire hat, ax & ladder engraved on it. Rim of bell has a regular "V" shaped pattern. Many areas of tarnish on stem, bell and rim are relatively untarnished. No date visible on the object, but likely from the time when Charles Gott was in the Arlington Fire Department |
