Description |
Rectangular sampler of silk floss on linen ground. Pink, purple, green, blue, white, dark brown. Variation of "indian pink" motif of late 18th early 19th century, possible tulip at top. Border only on top and two sides. Zigzag flat embroidery stitch along inner border. Single alphabet and ampersand with wavy lines between each. Image in center is a white three story federal style house with double chimney and green door, woman and child on left and man and woman on right. Large purple and white flowers spring from ground. Two trees above, one on left with birds and other with fruits or flowers - lone bird flies in center of two trees. Below grass is another border with rosebud or strawberry motif and text "Sally Frost's work wrought in the eleventh year of her age" Image: 13 1/4" x 10 3/4" Frame: 14 1/4" x 11 3/4" |
