Description |
Square sampler - silk floss on linen ground. Combination of cross stitch and embroidery stitches. Blue, pink, green and tan. Bordered with flat stitch in zigzag pattern and undulating strawberry motif. Centered verse flanked by embroidered rosebuds: "The fairest flower will soon decay Its fragrance loose and splendid hew So youth and beauty wears away And vanishes at the morning dew" Ring of vines in lower center with "Lydia Adams work wrought in the tenth year of her age West Cambridge October 11, 1807" On either side the aphorism "Constant applicatation leads to excellence" and "Youth well instructed makes age well disposed." Two sets of trees on either lower edge, vines with rosebuds all around. |
