Description |
The Hepplewhite piano (1907.95.1A) is mahogany with inlay and 4 1/2 octaves. It is probably English of the 18th C. The rectangular case can be removed. This design was advantageous in that if desired the instrument could be moved to any location where music accompaniment was desired, be it church or dance. It is not known where or when it was made. It is believed that no other piano in Arlington ante-dates this one. (Details from Appraisal of JR inventory file) Piano box rests on separate wooden stand (1907.95.1B) which has crosspiece and carving on legs. |
