Notes |
From Rev. Damon notes at Harvard Divinity School . .with his mother the widow of Jason Russell - Mrs. Jason Russell died . . .aged . . Mr. Noah Russell died 1825 aged 62 Mrs. Noah Russell [Eunice Bemis] died summer of 1855 aged 94 years Noah was twelve (12) years old at the time of the battle of Lexington and served in the war of the Revolution when near it closing perhaps the last two years of the war when he was 17 to 19 [note, he married Eunice Bemis in 1782, so it would likely be before that] Mrs. Noah Russell [Eunice Bemis] retained her faculties to the day of her death (94 years). She was a fine looking woman very rather fleshy, very bright, and clever[?} minded, to the last, was one of the most entertaining women Russell Teel [Thomas Russell Teel] ever knew. Was fond of telling stories to children and was their delight. Russell Teel also remembers Mrs. Jason Russell [Elizabeth Winship] his grandmother's mother [grandfather's mother?] remembers one conversation in particular that when he was a small child she was shelling beans and she told some member of the family to be careful to take all the beans away or Russell would get hold of one and have it up his nose. Very soon after this caution Russell did have one of the beans up his nose, the doctor was sent for, and by using a stav cooking a few he pulled out the bean from the child's nose with it. [Elisabeth Winship died in 1786, so this is not possible - could have been Elizabeth Warren, mother of Eunice Bemis - unknown death date] Noah Russell + wife lived in the Jason Russell house all their married life except about a year when they lived at Waltham. While residing at Waltham Russell Teel's mother was born now (1878) 85 years old. Both Noah + his widow died in this the Jason Russell House. Mrs. Noah Russell died in the summer of 1855 aged 94 years. Bullet holes are now to be seen in the Jason Russell House, the old timbers, old chimney, old stair ways, the pannel finish = plastering of front room and front chamber, the roof boarding = probably most of the . . . |
